Look Ma, I'm Blogging

BlogRecently, when chatting with a friend about our hectic schedules, she characterized her current her to- do list like this:

  • Easy
  • Easy
  • Hard
  • Scary

We both laughed, but my thoughts immediately turned to the scariest thing on my own to-do list.

For some time now, starting a blog has been a fixture in the "scary" category of my list. Oh sure, I know it's a good idea. I'm convinced that creating an online community would be fun. And yes, I'm aware that my business would benefit from regular exchanges with my clients and colleagues. But, because starting a blog is new for me and a little scary, it has remained on my "still not done" list. Until now!

This week with eyes squeezed shut and nosed pinched tight I leapt into the blogosphere. And you know what, it's really exciting. My first post went up on Thursday, May 8 and I've already created the next one. There's so much to talk about, and the beauty of blogging is that it becomes a conversation with people interested in the same things. I'm starting to think that I should have done this sooner.

Actually, time, not having enough of it, was one of the things that kept me stuck in the procrastination phase of this project. Where would I find the time to write a blog? But as I learned more, I realized that this new social media works best with short entries that are quick to write and quick to read.

Along the way, I was swayed about blogs and blogging in new a book: Naked Conversations, by Robert Scoble and Shel Israel.

"Through blogs, people with shared interests build relationships unrestricted by geographic borders," the authors write, "creating an unprecedented forum of collective intelligence."

With that in mind, and the encouragement of my friends, I have finally taken the "scary" out of blogging. Come visit me at
